Question:  Why was Caesar able to assert so much influence on the Roman populace?  

 

Purpose

After doing this assignment you will have a clear idea of the rise and politics of Rome, as well as an understanding of complexity of the Mediterranean economic and cultural world.

Task

  1. Read The Gaius Julius section of The Twelve Caesars by Suetonius.(p. 1-47)
  2. Read all the textbook readings on or dealing with Rome.
  3. Write an argumentative essay of no more than 700 words that answers the following question:

 

Using the book The Twelve Caesars and all your new found knowledge, why was Julius Caesar able to assert so much influence on the Roman populace in the late republic age of Rome?  

(You may take any stance you want, but your argument must be original and well proven.)

 

 Tip: Remember this is a history course, not a literature course: The book is evidence.  It should be used along with other evidence to prove your argument.   It is NOT the subject of the paper.
